Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Pioneers Earn Thrilling Victory Against #15 North Central (IL)

WAUKESHA, Wis. - For the second consecutive season, Carroll's women's soccer team has defeated a top 20 team at Schneider Stadium. The Pioneers' latest victim came Saturday evening against conference foe North Central (IL) College, who entered the day ranked 15th in NCAA Division-III, but ended the day with a 2-1 loss at the hands of the Pios. The win, which comes against the same program that ended their season in last year's CCIW Tournament Championship game, is Carroll's first victory against the Cardinals since 2017.

Carroll (3-4-2, 1-0-0 CCIW) struck first in this game when Grace Tumilty scored her third goal of the season in the final minutes of the first half, giving the Pios a 1-0 halftime lead.

North Central (8-3-0, 0-1-0 CCIW) would tie things up in the 77th minute when Sarah Andrey found Kassandra Salviola for the goal. That tie lasted until the 86th minute when Mari Sagstad found the back of the net via a Penalty Kick, which marked her team-leading sixth goal of the season.

North Central held a 20-4 shot advantage in the contest, including a 6-2 advantage in shots on goal. Both of Carroll's shots on goal found the back of the net.

Goal Keeper Caitlin Fitzsimons played all 90 minutes for Carroll, making five saves. Her counterpart, Olivia Mattison, also played the entire game between the pipes.

Winners of two straight, Carroll will try to keep their momentum going on Wednesday when they'll host Elmhurst University. That game will begin at 5 p.m. at Schneider Stadium in Waukesha, Wis.
