NEW BERLIN, Wis. – Carroll University's men's tennis' team excelled at singles play Friday night, as the Pioneers won their spring season opener against the Yellowjackets of UW-Superior.
Carroll (3-1) battled hard in doubles play, before ultimately losing the doubles point 2-1. The Pios' lone doubles win came at the one spot where senior Spanish duo
Adrian Gomez and
Daniel Ezcurra escaped with a 6-4 victory.
The Pioneers then moved to singles play where their dominance began. Carroll nearly had a clean sweep of singles, claiming five of the six matches.
Andrew LaBelle got the winning started with a 6-1, 6-2 victory at three singles. The Pios' four, five, and six singles followed up with wins from Jack McCaffrey,
Ryan LaBelle, and
Mark Trinka respectively. Finally, Gomez defeated Igor Gutten Chaves of UW-Superior in a 6-4, 6-4 battle.
Carroll will be in action again on Saturday when they'll take on UW-Whitewater at 4:30 p.m. in Lake Geneva, Wis.
