MADISON, Wis. - Carroll finished the triangular 1-1, moving to 13-12 overall (2-3 CCIW). The Pioneers demonstrated resilience and offensive balance, highlighted by a sweep over Rockford before falling to Edgewood later in the day.
Carroll 3, Rockford 0 (25-22, 25-9, 25-9)
The Pioneers took down Rockford in dominant fashion, sweeping them behind an efficient offensive performance. Carroll hit .228 as a team, including .310 in set two and .407 in set three, while limiting Rockford to a .048 hitting percentage.
Karlee Riggs paced the attack with 9 kills (.500) and 6.0 points, while Bronwyn Rowse added 9 kills (.238) and Avery Halstead chipped in 8 kills. Payton Depies directed the offense with 17 assists, and Ashley Miller led the back row with 15 digs. Carroll also posted 5 team blocks and aggressive serving throughout the match.
The Pioneers controlled the tempo early and never looked back, showcasing depth and execution to close the day on a high note.
Edgewood 3, Carroll 0 (25-17, 25-15, 25-22)
Carroll fell later in the day against Edgewood in a competitive matchup that featured extended rallies and a late push in the third set. The Pioneers finished with 32 kills and a .131 hitting percentage, while Edgewood posted 45 kills and hit .295.
Audrey Rosenbaum led Carroll with 8 kills and added 8.5 points, while Karlee Riggs chipped in 7 kills (.294) and Bronwyn Rowse added 8 kills. Ashley Miller anchored the defense with 21 digs, and the Pioneers recorded 5 team blocks, highlighted by Riggs and Rowse.
Carroll's best offensive stretch came in the third set, where they hit .173 and pushed Edgewood to the wire before falling 25-22. Despite the loss, the Pioneers showed resilience against a strong opponent.
There were certainly plenty of positives to take from the day for Carroll, as they will look to build on some offensive momentum as they head back to Waukesha this Wednesday at 6pm for another non-conference tilt against Loras College.
