WAUKESHA, Wis. – Carroll University battled through a marathon opening set and held off multiple rallies to defeat Loras College 3–1 on Wednesday night at Van Male Fieldhouse. The Pioneers claimed the match by scores of 34-32, 15-25, 26-24, 25-22, improving to 14-12 overall.
The first set set the tone for the night, as Carroll erased late deficits and converted on its fourth set point to win 34-32. After Loras responded with a dominant second set, Carroll regrouped behind steady passing and timely swings to edge the Duhawks in the third and fourth frames.
Carroll finished the night hitting .114 with 52 kills, led by Kylie Wittnebel's 16 kills and Audrey Rosenbaum's 16 kills at a .311 clip. Setter Payton Depies directed the offense with 47 assists, while Brooklyn Johnson added six kills and seven digs. Defensively, libero Maggie McGough anchored the back row with 32 digs, and the Pioneers combined for 6.0 team blocks, including key stops from Wittnebel and Rosenbaum in the closing points of the match.
Loras hit .132 with 51 kills and pushed Carroll to the limit, forcing 35 tie scores and 18 lead changes across the four sets. The Pioneers closed strong in the fourth, converting 63% of sideouts and limiting errors to seal the win.
Carroll returns to action Friday, October 24, hosting Wheaton in a pivotal conference match at Van Male Fieldhouse. First serve is scheduled for 7 p.m.
