ROCK ISLAND, Ill. — Carroll University women's volleyball earned its first CCIW win of the season with a dominant 3-0 sweep over Augustana on Friday night at the Carver PE Center. The Pioneers (10-8, 1-3 CCIW) controlled the match from start to finish, winning by scores of 25-18, 25-18, 25-23.
Carroll's offense was efficient, hitting .306 as a team while holding the Vikings (9-9, 0-3) to just .222. Junior Kylie Wittnebel powered the attack with a match-high 17 kills on .588 hitting, adding two blocks and an ace for 12 points. Bronwyn Rowse chipped in 12 kills and three blocks, while Brooklyn Johnson added eight kills and a team-best .500 hitting percentage.
Setter Payton Depies orchestrated the offense with 35 assists and contributed two kills and a service ace. Defensively, libero Maggie McGough anchored the back row with 13 digs, while Carroll out-blocked Augustana 6-1 at the net.
The Pioneers set the tone early, hitting .312 in the opening set and converting 68% of sideouts. After taking the first two frames by identical 25-18 scores, Carroll held off a late Augustana push in the third, closing on a kill from Carly Hicklin to seal the sweep.
Carroll stays on the home as they return to action Wednesday at UW-Oshkosh to face a Titans team that is #3 in the Division III volleyball rankings for a great non-conference matchup.
