ROCK ISLAND, Ill. - Both Carroll men's and women's cross country teams both took eighth place in the CCIW championships, as they capped off their respective conference seasons Saturday.
Men's Recap
Carroll's men finished eighth at the CCIW Championships, led by senior Ethan Weber, who ran 26:37.6 for 28th overall. Freshman Sam Daley (27:22.1) and sophomore Julian Bica Harrison (27:31.9) followed, while juniors Bailey Olson (27:47.0) and Cameron Lotspeich (28:12.9) rounded out the scoring. Sophomore Donovan Menningen set a PR at 28:18.2. Despite a stacked field, the Pioneers posted multiple season-best marks.
In the open race, Junior Rogan Leistiko also posted a 28:48.0 in a competitive field to take 49th place.
Women's Recap
Carroll's women placed eighth in the championship race, paced by sophomore Keagan Knue, who clocked 23:50.8 for a season best. She was followed by Hana Smith (24:00.7, PR), Kyla Laabs (25:20.2, PR), Rebecca Barnes (25:30.1, PR), and Paola Orozco (25:40.2, PR). Abby Burie (25:47.3) and Brooke Davies (25:50.1) also contributed strong finishes, while Sarah Tinder closed in 26:13.5. The Pioneers showed depth with six personal records in the championship lineup.
In the open race, senior Mia Kim ran 26:36.7 for 16th overall, joined by junior Lucy Beuthin (26:47.3), sophomore Nina Yaras (27:13.7), junior Kayla Hirschmann (27:58.9), freshman Anna Quast (28:37.4), and senior Lauren Hull (31:00.8). This group added experience and leadership to cap the season.
Both teams now head to the Division III North Regional in Colfax, WI on Saturday, November 15th as the Pioneers will look to continue their season and make some noise in the race.
