WAUKESHA, Wis. – Carroll University women's basketball continued their winning ways with a dominant 73–52 win over the University of Chicago Tuesday night at Van Male Fieldhouse. The Pioneers improved to 4–2 on the season with the victory.
Carroll jumped out early and never looked back, shooting 75% in the first quarter to build a 20–11 lead. After a tight second period, the Pioneers exploded in the third, outscoring UChicago 24–15 to push the margin to 21 points. Carroll's largest lead came late in the fourth at 28 points before closing out the win.
Natalie Gricius paced Carroll with 22 points on 8-of-11 shooting, adding five rebounds and two steals. Julia Lokker provided a spark off the bench with 18 points, including a perfect 4-for-4 from three-point range, while Emilie Wizner tallied 12 points and six assists. Katie Barger chipped in nine points and five assists as Carroll finished 28-of-53 (52.8%) from the field, 6-of-17 from three, and 11-of-19 at the line.
Defensively, the Pioneers forced 21 turnovers and converted them into 23 points, while holding UChicago to 33.3% shooting and just 3-of-21 from beyond the arc. Carroll dominated inside with 38 points in the paint and added seven fast-break points. The bench contributed 22 points in the win.
UChicago (0–1) was led by Bri Simpson with 12 points and Chris Sanders with 11. The Maroons shot 18-of-54 overall and 81.3% from the free-throw line but couldn't overcome Carroll's defensive pressure and hot shooting.
Carroll returns to action Saturday, Nov. 29, hosting Ripon College at Van Male Fieldhouse. Tip-off is set for 2 p.m.
