TEAM SCORES
KENOSHA, Wis. - Carroll's men's and women's swim teams each finished in fifth place at the annual Wisconsin Private College Championships over the weekend. The Pioneers' men's team finished with 58 team points, while Carroll's women scored 49 points. The teams combined for a trio of top-three finishes.
Edward McConnaha highlighted the Carroll men's team's weekend with a third-place finish in the 500 freestyle with a time of 4:53.54, which was just five seconds shy of the winning time. He added a sixth-place finish in the 50 freestyle (22.07), which was nearly a half second shy of the top time. McConnaha also swam a leg on a pair of fifth-place relays, teaming up with Jcob Rossi, Eli Griggs LeRoux, and
Gavin Buechel in the 400 Freestyle (3:24.37) and with Rossi, Buechel, and
Thomas Rynne in the 400 Medley (3:49.19).
On the women's side,
Erin Fixen gave the Pios a third-place finish in the 1650 Freestyle with a time of 19:02.83, which was 27 seconds shy of the winning time.
Kelly Gordon added a third-place finish in the 200 butterfly with a time of 2:27.30, just six seconds shy of the winner. Another notable performance included
Josie Peterson, finishing seventh in both the 100 butterfly (1:05.57) and 200 backstroke (2:25.65). Peterson also swam the anchor leg on Carroll's 200 Freestyle Relay, teaming up with
Alexandria Ostopowicz,
Kaya Martin, and
Morgan Toupal to swim a time of 1:45.40, less than five seconds off the winning pace. Toupal added a seventh-place finish in the 100 backstroke (1:05.88), while placing eighth in the 200 backstroke (2:25.72).
The Pioneers will now have a couple weeks off from competition, before heading back to the Kenosha area for the annual College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) Swimming Championships, which will take place from February 19-22. The final three days will feature the swimming events at Pleasant Prairie RecPlex in Pleasant Prairie, Wis.
