Men's Swimming and Diving

Carroll Has Successful First Day At CCIW Championships

DAY ONE RESULTS

KENOSHA, Wis. -
The Carroll men's and women's swim teams traveled to Carthage College Wednesday for the first day of the four-day College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) Swimming & Diving Championships. After six events, the Pioneers men sit in fourth place with 32 team points, while the Carroll women are fifth with 30 team points.

The lone event the Pios competed in on the first day of the CCIW Championships was the 800 freestyle relays, which featured two Carroll teams on both the men's and women's sides. Carroll has more first-year swimmers on the 800 relays than ever before, while all four relay teams swam faster than they have in the last five years at the conference meet.

On the women's side, Carroll's relay team of Josie Peterson, Kelly Gordon, Erin Fixen, and Kendal Richard finished fifth with a time of 8:07.67, which is a new lifetime-best time for that team, and is just five seconds shy of the fourth-place time. During that relay, Gordon and Fixen each swam a lifetime-best split time, while Peterson recorded a season-best split time in that event. Carroll's other relay team of Alexandria Ostopowicz, Kaya Martin, Chopper Ceshker, and Carigan Tabor also finished with a lifetime-best time of 8:32.22, with Ceshker and Tabor each recording lifetime-best splits and Martin earning a season-best split time, en route to finishing 13th in the event.

In the men's relay competition, Carroll's team of Eddie McConnaha, Dylan Klang, Gavin Buechel, and Jacob Rossi finished fifth with a lifetime-best time of 7:17.40. That included a lifetime-best split time from Buechel, and season-best splits from both Klang and Rossi, as the Pios finished just three seconds behind the fourth-best time. Carroll's other team of Thomas Rynne, Cole Faust, Eli Griggs-LeRoux, and Andrew Arreguin finished 12th with a time of 8:03.23. Swimming a lifetime-best split time on that team was Rynne, Griggs-LeRoux, and Arreguin, while Faust swam a season-best split time.

Heading into Thursday's Prelims, the Pioneers have six swimmers seeded to make it back fo the finals sessions. Entering the second day of competition, both Carroll's men's and women's teams are in a higher place than they have finished during the last  five years, while the men's team is in the highest position they have been in over eight years.

Thursday's prelims will begin at 10:30 a.m. at the Pleasant Prairie RecPlex in Pleasant Prairie, Wis.
