Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Pios Hold On For Season-Opening Victory

LAKE FOREST, Ill. - Carroll's women's lacrosse team built a 6-1 lead after one quarter of play in Saturday's 2025 season-opener at Lake Forest, before holding on for a 10-9 victory. The College of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) preseason favorites, Carroll also out-shot the Foresters, an NCAA Tournament qualifier last season, by a 32-23 margin, while forcing 25 LFC turnovers.

Sophomore Elizabeth Wang picked up right where she left off last season for the Pios. After setting a single season school record with 78 goals last year, Wang scored the first goal of the 2025 season, finding the back of the net to break a scoreless tie in the game's first minute. After Lake Forest (0-1) tied the score at one later in the period, Lauren Fricke got into the action to give the Pios (1-0) the lead once again on Grace Brockman's second assist. Wang added two more goals in the next eight minutes, giving her a hat trick before the first quarter was over. Brockman and Fricke also added goals in the period to give Carroll a 6-1 advantage heading into the second frame. After Lake Forest's Jenna Doctor scored her second goal of the game to start the second, Wang scored twice more, giving Carroll an 8-2 lead. Lake Forest would double their score with two goals in the final minutes of the half, going into the locker room trailing 8-4.

Wang would add her sixth goal of the game mid-way through the third period on another assist from Brockman, but Lake Forest slowly clawed their way back into the game with a pair of goals at the end of the third, including another goal by Doctor to give her a hat trick. Carroll would get a much-needed insurance goal with 10 and a half minutes remaining to give the Pios a 10-6 lead. Doctor then scored two more goals, while Krissy Kuwahara also scored, making the score 10-9 with just under five minutes remaining. The Pios' defense then stepped up, holding the Foresters out of the net in the final minutes to secure the victory.

In addition to Wang's six goals and one assist, Fricke scored three times, while Brockman recorded one goal and a team-high three assists. Hannah McKenna played all 60 minutes at Goal Keeper for the Pios, making nine saves in her first collegiate start.

Lake Forest was led by Doctor's five goals, while Kuwahara scored two and Emma Sharp led the way with a game-high four assists. Forester Goal Keeper Cecilia Adams played all 60 minutes, registering 13 saves.

Carroll will be in action again on Wednesday when they'll travel to Marian (Wis.). That game will begin at 4 p.m. in Fond du Lac, Wis.
