NEENAH, Wis. – Carroll's men's tennis team recorded a pair of dominating victories on Sunday, defeating Loras College by a score of 7-0 and UW-Stevens Point by a 6-1 margin.
In the day's first match against Loras, the Pioneers won at both the number one and two doubles flights to claim the doubles point for the team.
In singles play, Carroll won at all six positions, most notably Andrew Labelle, who won a thriller by a score of 4-6, 6-0, 12-10 against Loras's Gage Becker.
Felix Persson made his season debut in the singles lineup, winning 6-1, 6-3 at the number six position, while
Adrian Gomez won 6-2, 6-4 at the top flight.
In the nightcap, against UW-Stevens Point, the Pioneers swept all three doubles matches to earn the doubles team point. At the top flight, senior tandem,
Daniel Ezcurra and
Adrian Gomez claimed a 6-1 victory.
In singles play, Carroll continued their dominance, with
Ryan LaBelle winning in a super-breaker at the number five position, 2-6, 6-0, 10-7 against the Pointers. Gomez also claimed a victory, 6-3, 7-6 (7-4) against Steven Benoy at the top flight. one singles.
Andrew LaBelle's second singles victory of the day, a 6-2, 6-4 victory at the number three flight, gives the junior 29 career singles victories, which moves him into ninth place in program history.
The wins improve Carroll's season record to 6-3 on the season. They will be back in action in March when they'll travel to Hilton Head, S.C. during spring break.
