HILTON HEAD, S.C. – Carroll's men's tennis team battled hard, but ultimately lost to Division-I foe Stonehill College Wednesday afternoon, which concludes the Pios' Spring Break trip with a 2-1 record.
Carroll (8-4) faced their toughest battle of the season and showed grit against the Skyhawks of Stonehill. In doubles play,
Adrian Gomez and
Daniel Ezcurra got the Pios off to a hot start with a 6-3 win at the top flight. At number three doubles, Carroll's team of Jack McCaffrey and
Ryan LaBelle showed resiliency, but ultimately fell 6-7 (9-11).
Both
Ryan LaBelle and
Andrew LaBelle had tight matches in singles play, but both would end up on the losing end of things. At the third flight, Andrew fell 2-6, 4-6, while Ryan was defeated at the number five position by a score of 6-7 (3-7), 2-6.
The Pioneers will now return to Wisconsin, where they will resume their schedule with their conference opener on March 22 against Wheaton (Ill.). That match will begin at 9 a.m. from Center Court in Hanover Park, Ill.
