ANGOLA, Ind. - Carroll men's lacrosse began their spring break campaign with a tough road test on Wednesday night, falling to Trine University by a score of 15-3. Trine (6-0) more than quadrupled the Pios looks at net, taking 55 shot attempts to Carroll's 12.
Just over five minutes into the game, Trine registered three goals, followed by two more in the ensuing minutes to give the Thunder a 5-0 advantage 11 minutes into the contest. Carroll (4-2) cracked the scoreboard with under two minutes remaining in the opening period off the stick of Brady Conwell, his ninth of the season. Trine scored two more goals before Ethan Phillips tallied his tenth goal of the season off the assist from Declan McMahon. From there, Trine scored six unanswered goals through the remainder of the first half and into the second half, as the Thunder pulled to a 13-2 advantage. Luke Bridges scored an unassisted goal with less than 90 seconds remaining in the third quarter, but that would be as close as the Pio would get, as Trine found the back of the net twice more to finalize the scoring at 15-3.
Carroll Goal Keeper Jake Gehl played 53 minutes between the pipes, saving 12 shots and seceding the defeat, while Jonas Malmanger finished the final seven minutes and tallied one save. Trine played four goalies in the contest, with Zade Gawrys playing the first 30 minutes of competition, getting two saves and securing the win for the Thunder.
The Pioneers will conclude their spring break tour with a game at Hanover College in Hanover, Ind. At 4 p.m. (ET) on Saturday, March 15.
