GEORGETOWN, Texas - In the first of two games on their Spring Break trip to Texas, Carroll's women's lacrosse team suffered an 18-6 loss to Meredith College. Meredith also held a 35-17 shot advantage in the contest.
Despite the loss, it was the Pioneers (5-1) who would score first, as
Samantha Hurd found the back of the net, unassisted. Meredith (5-2) would tie the game just three and a half minutes on a goal by Bailey Swails, and would take the lead four minutes after that on an Allison June Mabe goal. Meredith would score two more goals in the first quarter, before exploding for nine goals in the second period.
Elizabeth Wang would get Carroll on the board once more in the final minutes of the first half, sending the Pios into the locker room trailing 13-3.
Swails gave Meredith another goal to begin the second half. Carroll would receive goals from
Abby Tubbs,
Sela McCarthy, and
Emma Kimps in the fourth quarter, but it wouldn't be enough to overcome Meredith's big second quarter.
Wang led the Pioneers with two goals, which gives the sophomore 100 for her career in just 24 career games, as she becomes the sixth player in program history to reach that milestone. Carroll's Goal Keeping trio of
Hannah McKenna,
Sydney Everett, and
Devon Duym combined to make eight saves on the day, with McKenna saving seven of those in her 30 minutes of work.
Meredith was led by Kenzie Todd's four games, while Lauryn Turner and Reese Walker also each posted a hat trick with three goals apiece. Walker and Turner also finished with four and three assists, respectively.
Carroll will be in action again Saturday when they'll battle Southwestern University in Georgetown, Texas.
