GEORGETOWN, Texas - After suffering their first loss of the season in their last outing, Carroll's women's lacrosse team got back on track Saturday with a convincing 14-1 victory against Southwestern (Tex.). The Pioneers also held a 39-15 shot advantage on the day.
Carroll (6-1) struck first mid-way through the opening quarter on a goal by
Elizabeth Wang, which was assisted by
Abby Tubbs.
Elaina Phaneuf would add a goal later in the period and the Pios added four more in the second, with three of those coming from Wang.
After taking a 6-0 lead into halftime, Carroll continued to pour it on in the second half, as Wang scored her fifth goal of the day just one and a half minutes into the second half.
Abby Tubbs would add a goal for the Pios on an assist from
Sierra Skack, before Wang scored her sixth goal of the contest to put the Pioneers up 9-0. Southwestern's lone goal came mid-way through the third period by Susette Mireles. Carroll would add two more goals in the third before capping the scoring with three in the fourth.
Carroll was led by Wang's scoring output, while Skack also recorded a hat trick with three goals. Tubbs finished with two goals and
Grace Brockman and
Lauren Fricke each posted two assists.
Hannah McKenna and
Sydney Everett combined to make seven saves at Goal Keeper for the Pioneers, while
Devon Duym also saw action in the net.
Southwestern Goal Keepers Emma Bethke and Hannah Colvin combined to save 13 shots.
Carroll will now return home to Wisconsin. They will be in action again on Wednesday when they'll travel to Edgewood College. That contest will begin at 5 p.m. in Verona, Wis.
