ATLANTA, Ga. – The Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) announced the NCAA Division-III award winners for the 2024-25 season on Wednesday, with Carroll's
Olivia Rangel and
Natalie Gricius each earning All-America Honorable Mention honors. That duo helped lead the Pioneers to a fourth consecutive season of at least 17 victories, which is the longest such streak in program history, en route to a second consecutive appearance in the CCIW Tournament Championship Game.
This marks the third consecutive season that Rangel has been named to the WBCA's All-America Honorable Mention team. Wednesday's announcement comes just one day after the CCIW Player of the Year was named D3hoops.com First Team All-Region and Region 8 Player of the Year.
A guard from Franklin, Wis., Rangel finished her senior year ranking 35th in Division-III in scoring average with a conference-best 18.7 points per game. A finalist for this year's Jostens Trophy, Rangel also led the CCIW in assists per game (4.7) and Assist-to-turnover ratio (1.51), which rank 28th and 80th, respectively, in D-III. A four-time First Team All-Conference performer, including a unanimous selection the last two seasons, Rangel ranks second in the conference and 32nd in the country, in steals per game (2.96), while also ranking fourth in the league and 94th in D-III for field goal percentage (.468).
Earlier this season, Rangel broke Carroll's career record for both assists and steals, while also shattering the school's single season steals record. She finishes her career ranking fourth in program history for career points (1,653).
Gricius is making her first career appearance on the WBCA All-America Honorable Mention team. Originally from Oconomowoc, Wis., Gricius finished the season ranking second in the conference in scoring with a career-best 18.2 points per game, which is 42nd among all Division-III players, and recently became the 18th player in program history to surpass 1,000 career points. A two-time All-Region and two-time All-Conference selection, including a unanimous First Team pick this year, Gricius also ranks ninth in the CCIW with a team-best 6.1 rebounds per game, third in field goal percentage (.504 - 41st in D-III), fourth in free throw percentage (.817 - 66th in D-III).), and 10th in 3-pointers made per game (1.3), in addition to shooting 35 percent from behind the arc.
The WBCA All-America team is based on current season game-by-game statistics and achievements, impact on the team, success of the team, sportsmanship and attitude, and academic eligibility. The players who receive the most votes in each region – the number of which is predetermined – become finalists for Coaches' All-America honors. A committee composed of WBCA member coaches in each respective division then selects the 10-member Coaches' All-America Team from the finalists. Those not selected receive Honorable Mention recognition.
