WAUKESHA, Wis. - Carroll's men's tennis team battled hard against conference foe North Central (Ill.) Friday afternoon, before ultimately losing to the Cardinals by a score of 5-2, which is the best the Pios have fared against NCC since the 2019 season.
In doubles play, the Pioneers (8-6,, 0-2 CCIW) failed to claim the doubles point losing all three matches. Notably,
Andrew LaBelle and
Felix Persson had a battle but fell 4-6 at the number two doubles spot.
The Pios kept fighting through singles play, as the twin brothers, Andrew and
Ryan LaBelle, both claimed points for Carroll, winning at number three and five singles respectively. Andrew won in straight sets 7-5, 6-2 at the number three position, while Ryan had a battle with graduate student Justin Penados, winning the first set in dominant fashion, 6-1. He would then drop the second set 4-6 but won by a score of 13-11 in a thrilling super breaker.
The Pioneers will continue their CCIW competition on Tuesday when they'll host Elmhurst University. That match is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m. at the Jean Kilgour-Trailblazer Tennis Complex in Waukesha, Wis.
