Pioneers Drop First Match of the Season Behind Raiders' Big Fourth Quarter

WAUKESHA, Wis. - Carroll men's lacrosse continued non-conference play with a test against Milwaukee School on Engineering (MSOE) on Thursday night, falling by a score of 12-5 the Pioneers have won their season-opener. Carroll trailed 6-5 entering the fourth quarter before MSOE turned the tides with six unanswered goals in the fourth quarter alone. MSOE nearly doubled the Pioneers looks at goal, taking 45 shots to Carroll's 24.

MSOE (2-1) didn't waste much time getting on the board, as the Raiders found the back of the net less than 70 seconds into the contest. Carroll quickly responded, as Ethan Phillips rifled a shot for his seventh goal of the season three minutes later. Carroll took their first lead of the contest with just over 90 seconds in the first quarter when Luke Bridges scored his second goal of the season. On the ensuing faceoff MSOE immediately attacked the goal, scoring eight seconds later to knot the game up at 2-2 after an action-packed first period.

The second quarter was much like the first, as the two teams traded two goals each. Bridges recorded his second goal of the game, followed by Brady Mollsen, scoring his seventh goal of the season. MSOE met Carroll's offense with two goals of their own, as the two teams went into the break in a 4-4 deadlock.

The third quarter was a defensive battle, with the intensity rising on both teams. The only Pioneer goal of the period came from Bridges, recording a hat trick with eight-and-a-half minutes left in the third. MSOE added bookend goals to the period, scoring just over five minutes in and with only 13 seconds remaining in the period. The third quarter goal would spark an offensive attack from the Raiders, who dominated the fourth quarter, scoring six times in the period and kept the Pios off the attack, as Carroll only got five looks at the net in the pivotal fourth.

Carroll Goal Keeper Jake Gehl played all but 68 seconds between the pipes, saving 16 shots and seceding the defeat. His counterpart, Alex Lo, made seven saves for MSOE, while also playing the entire game.

The Pioneers will look to rebound on Saturday, March 8, where they will host Edgewood College. That game will begin at 1 p.m. at Schneider Stadium in Waukesha, Wis.
