Carroll Splits Pair of Games On Second Day of Spring Trip

WAUKESHA, Wis. - Carroll's softball team continued their hot start to the 2025 season on Sunday, defeating Mount Saint Mary (NY) 5-1 to improve to 3-0 on the year, before suffering their first loss in the nightcap, falling 3-2 to Suffolk University on a walk-off hit.

GAME 1
The day started great for the Pios, scoring three runs in the bottom of the first to jump on Mount Saint Mary early. MK Dusza broke a scoreless tie with an RBI single, which scored Abby Curtis from second base. A Jenna Andler double would allow two more runs to cross the plate.

Mount St. Mary's only run of the game would come on an RBI single in the fifth, but Carroll got that run back in the bottom of that inning when Andler doubled again, allowing Morgan Miller to score. Dusza then added an RBI single in the sixth to cap the scoring.

Carroll finished the game with five hits. Riley Pavelka (2-0) earned her second win in as many days in the circle, yielding just one run on four hits and recording a career-high 13 strikeouts in the complete game performance.

GAME 2
The day's second game saw Carroll strike first once again on an RBI ground-out by Dusza in the top of the first. Suffolk then scored two runs in the bottom of that inning to take the lead, but Carroll tied things up in the second on an RBI double off the bat of Gianna Buske.

That's where the score would stand until the bottom of the seventh, which saw Suffolk record a walk-off winner on an RBI double with one out in the inning.

Makayla Wall (1-1) suffered the hard-luck loss, allowing six hits in a complete game performance, without yielding an earned run and striking out three batters.

The Pios will be in action again on Monday, as they'll battle Gordon College and the University of Northwestern (MN) at 9 and 11:30 a.m. EDT, respectively. Both games will be played at Bartow Sports Complex in Bartow, Fla.
