KENOSHA, Wis. - Carroll men's lacrosse (5-8, 0-3 CCIW) continued CCIW competition by traveling to Carthage College on Friday evening, falling to the Firebirds by a score of 22-9. Those nine goals were the most the Carroll offense has produced in a defeat this season. Carthage (11-4, 2-2 CCIW) nearly doubled Carroll's looks at goal, taking 55 shots to the Pioneers' 31.
Brady Mollsen was the first Pioneer to record a goal, scoring an advantage goal off the assist from Brady Conwell, but Carroll was outscored 5-1 in the first period to find themselves at an early deficit. Freshman Roman DeAngelis scored his first and second career goals in the second quarter and Mollsen added another to bring the game to a manageable 8-4 score.
From there, Carthage responded with 10 unanswered goals over the next one-and-a-half quarters as their lead grew to 18-4. Carroll outscored the Firebirds 5-4 over the last quarter and change, as Mollsen recorded a hat trick and Declan McMahon chipped in two more goals, with the last one coming with just over 90 ticks remaining.
Carroll Goal Keeper Jake Gehl earned the start, making 10 saves in a through the first three quarters while Jonas Malmanger closed the game between the pipes and recorded six saves in the final period.
The Pioneers will continue conference play on Wednesday, April 23 where they will host Elmhurst University in the friendly confines of Schneider Stadium. That game is slated for 5 p.m.
