NAPERVILLE, Ill. - Carroll's women's lacrosse team remained undefeated in conference play (4-0) Saturday with a 17-6 win at North Central (IL) College. That win clinches at least a share of the 2025 CCIW regular season championship, and will give the Pioneers the number one seed in this year's CCIW Tournament.
The Pioneers scored early and often against North Central, out-shooting the Cardinals by a 31-13 margin, with 23 of their 31 shots coming on goal. This marks the third consecutive game in which Carroll has scored at least 17 goals, and they are outscoring opponents by an average of 17-4 during that span.
The Pios opened the scoring less than two minutes into the contest on
Elaina Phaneuf's eighth goal of the season.
Elizabeth Wang added a goal one minute later, while
Abby Tubbs would score her first of seven goals on the day on minute after that. Tubs would score again later in the period, as would
Lauren Fricke and
Grace Brockman. A pair of North Central goals by Abby MacKenzie and Annelise Oster, got NCC on the board, before Tubbs and Phaneuf each scored to extend that lead back to six. Oster would score again for North Central with two minutes remaining in the half, but that was enough time for Carroll to score twice more, with Wang and Tubbs doing the honors.
Samantha Hurd's first goal of the game and 13th of the season put the Pios up by eight just one minute into the second half. Three more goals by Tubbs, and two more by Wang, gave the Pioneers a commanding 15-3 lead at the end of the third quarter. North Central would score three more goals in the fourth quarter to double their score, but it was not enough, as Carroll's score was capped by another goal from both Tubbs and Wang.
Tubbs's career-high seven goals is just two shy of the program's single game record. Wang added five goals, while Phaneuf finished with two.
Sierra Skack led the team with two assists, with
Grace Brockman recording the team's only other assist.
North Central was led by a hat trick from Oster, while MacKenzie finished with two goals.
All three Carroll Goal Keepers played in the game, with
Devon Duym recording four saves in 45 minutes of work. North Central's Alyssa Rose started and played the first 52 minutes, making nine saves on the day.
Carroll will be in action again next weekend when they'll play their regular season finale at Augustana (IL). A win would give the Pioneers their first outright conference title in program history, and would also cap the team's first-ever undefeated conference schedule. Saturday's game will begin at 1 p.m. in Rock Island, Ill.
