Concordia (Wis.) Takes Two Games From Pios

MEQUON, Wis. - Carroll's softball team held a lead mid-way through each game of Thursday's doubleheader at Concordia (Wis.), but ultimately dropped both games. The Pioneers fell 4-3 in a game one walk-off, before falling in the nightcap by a score of 10-7.

GAME ONE
Carroll (9-9) jumped on the board first in Thursday's opening game, as Madison Hoagland delivered a bases-loaded double, which cleared the bags and gave the Pios an early 3-0 lead. Concordia (14-6) would get one run back in the third on a sacrifice fly, before tying the game on a pair of RBI singles in the fifth.

That set the stage for Concordia's heroics in the seventh, which saw the Falcons score the winning run on a one-out sac fly, which was set up by a lead-off double.

Each team finished the game with seven hits. Carroll was led by MK Dusza's 2-for-4 performance at the plate. Riley Pavelka received a no-decision, allowing three earned runs on six hits and striking out two.

GAME TWO
In the nightcap, Carroll again struck first, scoring five runs in the top of the third, which saw all nine Pio batters come to the plate, as they collected six hits in that inning. Kali Stanchina broke a scoreless tie with a single to right center that allowed Hoagland to score. Dusza then drove in a pair of runs with a double down the right field line, before Jenna Andler and Madison Strampe each recorded an RBI single.

Concordia cut into that lead with a pair of runs in the bottom of the third, scoring on a wild pitch and a sac fly. They would then tie the game with a three-run homer by Jasmine Freeze in the fifth.

The Falcons doubled their run total with a five-spot in the sixth, scoring three runs on a bases loaded double, and two more on Freeze's second homer of the contest. Carroll tried to battle back, scoring a pair of runs on a Jenna Andler double in the top of the seventh, but it was not enough to overcome that deficit.

Each team finished with 11 hits in the game. Carroll was led by Stanchina, who went 3-for-4 at the dish, while scoring two runs and driving in another. Andler added two hits and a team-high three RBI, while also scoring a run. Abby Curtis also registered a pair of hits and scored two runs from her lead-off position.

Carroll will be in action again Saturday when they'll travel to #11 UW-Oshkosh. That doubleheader is scheduled for Noon in Oshkosh, Wis.
