WAUKESHA, Wis. - After some time off, Carroll men's lacrosse returned to the friendly confines of Schneider Stadium with a nonconference matchup against Concordia University (Wis.) on Monday night, falling to the Falcons by a score of 18-6. The two teams had nearly equal looks at goal, with Concordia holding a slight edge over the Pioneers 42-41.
Concordia (5-7) got off to a blazing start, scoring five goals in the first three minutes of play. That lead would only grow, as the Falcons' attack produced 10 goals in the first quarter. Carroll (5-4) found their footing and the final three quarters were evenly matched, with Brady Mollsen cracking the scoreboard early in the second period for his 10th goal of the season. After a responding goal from the Falcons, Jake Kopocis scored with just under 70 seconds remaining in the first half. CUW scored with 30 ticks remaining and the two teams went into the half with a 13-2 Falcon advantage.
The first half gap would increase by two through the first 10 minutes of the third period as Concordia outscored the Pioneers 3-1 in the early goings of the half. From there Carroll held the advantage scoring three unanswered goals off the sticks of Zachary Szuba, Nick White, and Brady Conwell. That Conwell score would be as close as the Pioneers would get as the Falcons scored twice more, ending the game with an 18-6 Pioneer defeat.
Carroll Goal Keeper Jake Gehl played wire-to-wire in the net for the Pioneers, suffering his fourth loss of the season and making 13 saves. Concordia was backed by Travis Marquardt, who made seven saves for the Falcons, while Nolan O'Malley played the final five minutes and made four saves..
The Pioneers will have one more nonconference bout before entering CCIW-play when they host Benedictine University (IL) on Wednesday, April 9. That game will begin at 7 p.m. from Schneider Stadium
