WAUKESHA, Wis. – The Pioneers' dual season got off to a fiery start with a contentious 4-3 victory over Concordia Wisconsin.
In doubles, the Pioneers quickly won two of the three matches. Seniors
Felix Persson and
Andrew LaBelle won 6-0,
Ryan LaBelle and
David Eman followed them right up with an equally impressive 6-0 victory. Pios headed into singles with the 1-0 lead.
Carroll had to stay strong in singles but only had to win 3 of the 6 matches. Andrew Labelle won 6-4, 6-1 at one singles against sophomore Hayden Latus.
Felix Persson won at six singles in a three-set thriller, 6-1, 3-6, 6-3. Unfortunately, the two more Pios lost in third sets, and the match score was tied 3-3. Freshman from Norway, Ulrik Gellein, had to step up at three singles. Ulrik lost the first set 6-4 but came back and won the second 6-4. Gellein won 6-3 in the third set to clinch the win in the Pios season opener.
Carroll men's tennis will be back in action on Sunday, September 12
th with three matches; 9am against Edgewood, 12pm against UW-LaCrosse, and 3pm against Ripon.
