WHEATON, Ill - Carroll University's women's tennis team put forth a competitive effort on September 12 in a CCIW matchup against Wheaton College, ultimately falling 5–2 at the Wheaton Tennis Courts.
The Pioneers earned two victories in singles play. Katherine Trifilio secured a win at No. 2 singles, outlasting Tatum Thurstone in a three-set battle (6–2, 2–6, 1–0). Megan Trifilio followed with a comeback victory at No. 3 singles, defeating Ella Malone (4–6, 6–1, 1–0). Both matches highlighted Carroll's ability to stay composed and finish strong under pressure.
Wheaton claimed the remaining singles matches in straight sets. The Thunder also swept the doubles competition, with the closest contest coming at No. 3 doubles, where Sophie Dew and Carly O'Leary edged out Carroll's pairing of Makayla Counsell and Megan Trifilio in a tight tiebreaker (7–6 [7–4]).
Despite the final score, Carroll showed resilience and flashes of strong play, particularly in the middle of the singles lineup. The team now stands at 2–2 overall and 1–2 in CCIW play, gaining valuable experience as they continue through the fall season.
The Pioneers will look to capitalize on Sunday's non-conference match against UW-La Crosse as the Pioneers take on the Eagles at noon at Heyer Park.
