ST. PETER, Min. – The Carroll Pioneer women's tennis team competed at Gustavus Adolphus College in the ITA Regional Tournament this past weekend.
Caroll had Natasa Pupovac seeded 17th in singles and their one doubles, Natasa Pupovac and Katherine Trifilio, seeded 9th. In singles, Natasa Pupovac earned a bye for the first round, then defeated Ellie Kalina from Loras in the second round. Pupovac fell in the round of 32 to the 5th-seeded Gracie Ha of UW-Whitewater 3-6, 3-6. In doubles, Pupovac and Trifilio won their first round 8-3 over Hamline. They kept rolling, defeating Edgewood 8-2. Their next test was top-seeded Gustavus Adolphus, which the Pioneer fought but lost 4-8.
In the B draw, Carroll had three players compete. Most notably, Mia Franke defeated Hamline 8-5 before losing to Grinnell in the next round. Senior Erin Horzewski lost in a tough battle against Gustavus Adolphus 4-8.
Carroll will be back in action on Tuesday, September 23, against North Park for their first match this year on the Jean Kilgour Trailblaze tennis courts at 3:30 p.m. as they battle conference foe North Park.
