MILWAUKEE, Wis. – Carroll University men's lacrosse mounted a dramatic second-half comeback but came up just short in an 11–10 double-overtime loss at MSOE on Saturday afternoon at Viets Field.
The Pioneers trailed 10–3 late in the second quarter before rallying with seven goals over the final two periods to force overtime. Carroll held MSOE scoreless in the third quarter, scoring four times to cut the deficit to three entering the fourth. The Pioneers continued the push in the final period, pulling within two on a man-up goal early in the quarter and tying the game with 1:24 remaining when Luke Bridges scored off an assist from Russell Therres.
Brady Conwell led Carroll with three goals and an assist, scoring twice during the third-quarter run that shifted momentum. Brady Mollsen added two goals, including a man-up tally early in the fourth quarter, while Zach Szuba finished with two goals and an assist. Declan McMahon recorded a goal and two assists, and Aiden Klick added a key goal late in regulation to help complete the comeback.
Carroll held a 46–45 edge in shots, but MSOE goalkeeper Alex Lo finished with 24 saves. Jonas Malmanger recorded 13 saves in relief for the Pioneers, helping keep MSOE off the scoreboard for long stretches during Carroll's rally.
After a scoreless first overtime, MSOE scored the game-winning goal 2:39 into the second overtime period to secure the victory.
The second half really showed a lot for this Pioneers squad though, and they will have the opportunity to build off of it when they return to action Wednesday as they travel to Concordia with game start at 3pm.
