LISLE, Ill. – The Carroll University men's lacrosse team dropped a 15–6 decision on the road to undefeated Benedictine on Saturday afternoon at Lisle, Ill.
Benedictine controlled the early momentum, scoring three goals in the opening quarter and extending the lead to 9–1 by halftime. Carroll settled in offensively after the break, posting three goals in the third quarter and adding two more in the fourth, but the early deficit proved too much to overcome.
Zach Szuba led the Pioneers with two goals, while Ethan Phillips also recorded a pair of scores and added an assist. Brady Mollsen finished with a goal and an assist, and Brady Conwell chipped in one goal as Carroll spread its offense across multiple contributors. Aiden Klick registered an assist, and Carroll generated 32 shots on the afternoon.
Despite being outshot 47–32, Carroll found success at times in settled offense, particularly in the third quarter. Phillips scored twice in the period, including a man-up goal that trimmed the deficit and briefly shifted momentum. Szuba added another late in the quarter as the Pioneers continued to battle.
Defensively, Carroll goalkeeper Jake Gehl turned in a busy performance, making 14 saves while facing constant pressure. The Pioneers also went 23-for-31 on clears, limiting transition opportunities, but Benedictine's edge in faceoffs and ground balls helped the hosts control possession for much of the contest.
Carroll moves forward looking to build on its second-half execution as it prepares for its next nonconference matchup back at home on Wednesday against Beloit at 7pm..
