WAUKESHA, Wis. – Carroll men's lacrosse used a fast start, balanced scoring, and a strong defensive effort to earn a 12–3 victory over Beloit on Tuesday night at Schneider Stadium.
The Pioneers set the tone early, scoring five goals in the opening quarter to build a 5–2 lead. After Beloit struck first, Anthony DeFilippis answered with an unassisted goal before Carroll rattled off four goals in a span of under eight minutes. Brady Mollsen and Ethan Phillips each found the back of the net twice in the opening period, while Jake Kapocis added a late goal to give Carroll early control.
Carroll extended the lead in the second quarter with goals from Zach Szuba, Mollsen, and Roman DeAngelis, pushing the advantage to 8–2 at halftime. The Pioneers continued to apply pressure after the break, with Mollsen completing his hat trick early in the third quarter and Phillips adding his third goal of the night to make it 9–2.
Defensively, Carroll limited Beloit to just 11 shots and forced 30 turnovers, consistently disrupting possessions and controlling ground balls. The Pioneers finished with a 47–27 edge in ground balls and were perfect on clears, going 22-for-22 on the night.
In goal, Jake Gehl anchored the defense, allowing just three goals while recording three saves in the win. Carroll continued to build its lead in the fourth quarter, as Phillips, Kapocis, and Declan McMahon each scored to cap the scoring. Brady Conwell paced the offense with three assists, while Roman DeAngelis added two assists as part of a balanced offensive effort.
The win marked Carroll's first home victory of the season and showcased the Pioneers' ability to control all facets of the game. Their next opportunity to build off of this game comes this Saturday when they travel to Madison to take on Edgewood at 1pm.
