VERONA, Wis. – Carroll men's lacrosse held off a late Edgewood push to secure a 10–9 victory Saturday afternoon at Reddan Park, earning its second win of the season in a tightly contested nonconference matchup.
The game opened with Edgewood scoring the first two goals of the afternoon, but Carroll responded with a strong finish to the opening quarter. Goals from Ethan Phillips and Zach Szuba tied the game before Szuba converted a man-up opportunity late in the period to give the Pioneers a 3–2 edge. Edgewood answered in the final minute of the quarter to knot the score at 3–3.
Edgewood briefly regained momentum in the second quarter with two power-play goals, but Carroll closed the half on a positive note as Kelley Gassner scored with 43 seconds remaining, cutting the deficit to 5–4 at halftime.
Carroll seized control in the third quarter, outscoring Edgewood 4–1 behind balanced offensive contributions. Nick White tied the game early in the period before goals from Brady Mollsen, Szuba, and Phillips pushed the Pioneers ahead 8–6 entering the final frame.
The Eagles kept pressure on in the fourth, trimming the margin to one on multiple occasions. After Edgewood made it 9–8 with just over five minutes remaining, Carroll answered decisively when Aiden Klick finished a feed from Brady Conwell at the 4:20 mark to restore a two-goal cushion.
Edgewood added a late goal with 1:44 remaining, but Carroll's defense and faceoff unit held firm down the stretch. Jake Wright dominated at the X, winning 20 of 23 faceoffs, helping Carroll control possession in key moments.
Szuba led Carroll with three goals, while Phillips added two goals and an assist. Conwell finished with four assists, and goalie Jonas Malmanger recorded 10 saves to earn the win.
Carroll outshot Edgewood 54–30 and collected 60 ground balls, using depth and possession control to secure the one-goal victory. The Pioneers next matchup will come Thursday when they travel to Dubuque, IA to take on Clarke at 6pm.
