Elmhurst, Ill. — Behind a dominant night from senior Natalie Gricius, Carroll women's basketball earned a 63–50 road victory over Elmhurst on Wednesday evening.
Gricius was nearly unstoppable, finishing with 27 points, 11 rebounds, and seven offensive boards, pacing an offense that steadily pulled away after halftime. Carroll outscored Elmhurst 19–9 in the second quarter and carried a 30–23 lead into the break before extending the advantage to double digits in the third.
In this game, Gricius also scored her 1500th point as well as grabbed her 500th rebound, making her just the 3rd Carroll Pioneer to accomplish this is school history.
Emilie Wizner added a strong all-around performance with 22 points, including key makes from beyond the arc, and six rebounds. Kacy Kratz provided reliable production with 8 points and a team-high nine rebounds, helping Carroll control the glass throughout the evening.
Defensively, the Pioneers held Elmhurst to just 36.7% shooting and limited the Bluejays to 2-of-15 from three. Carroll's pressure created 15 steals and generated 13 points off turnovers, while also producing 16 second-chance points thanks to a 44–29 rebounding advantage.
With the win, Carroll improves to 17–4 (11–1 CCIW) and remains firmly positioned atop of the conference standings.The Pioneers return home this Saturday as they host Augustana with tip set for 2pm.
