PENSACOLA, Fla. - The Carroll baseball team delivered a dominant offensive performance on Monday, defeating Grinnell 13–3 in Pensacola, Florida.
Carroll set the tone immediately, scoring seven runs in the first inning to seize control of the game. The Pioneers sent 11 batters to the plate in the opening frame, using timely hitting and aggressive baserunning to build an early advantage that would hold throughout the contest.
The offense remained consistent across the lineup, as Carroll finished with 13 runs on 13 hits. Leo Matuga led the way with a standout performance, going 2-for-4 with three RBI, including a pair of run-scoring hits in the opening inning. Dalen Lamberson added three RBI, driving in runs in both the first and sixth innings, while Jimmy Williams contributed two hits and two RBI, including an RBI triple during Carroll's four-run sixth.
Nathan Crick also played a key role offensively, recording two hits and two RBI, and Joey Appino reached base four times, scoring twice and helping spark the early rally.
On the mound, Bryten Staab earned the win, allowing three runs over 6.1 innings while striking out three. Staab worked out of traffic throughout the outing and kept Grinnell off balance, giving the Carroll offense plenty of room to operate. Joey Rivera closed out the final innings in relief.
Carroll's early offensive surge and steady pitching proved decisive as the Pioneers continued their strong start to the spring schedule. Their next matchup comes tomorrow night when they take on Edgewood in Pensacola again.
