Late Carroll Rally Falls Short in Extra-Inning Loss to Edgewood

PENSACOLA, Fla. - The Carroll baseball team battled back multiple times but ultimately fell 11–10 in 10 innings to Edgewood on Tuesday night at Blue Wahoos Stadium in Pensacola, Florida.

Carroll trailed early after Edgewood scored in each of the first two innings, but the Pioneers began to chip away in the fifth. Carroll plated three runs in the inning, highlighted by an RBI groundout from Leo Matuga and aggressive baserunning that produced additional runs to cut the deficit to 4–3.

Edgewood answered with runs in the sixth and eighth innings to regain separation, but Carroll responded with a dramatic five-run rally in the bottom of the eighth to take an 8–7 lead. Eddie Synek drove in a run with a single, Matuga added an RBI, and Dalen Lamberson delivered the biggest blow of the inning with a two-run double to put Carroll in front.

The back-and-forth affair continued as Edgewood scored three times in the ninth, forcing Carroll to answer again. The Pioneers tied the game with two runs in the bottom of the ninth, including a sacrifice fly from Gabriel Lee and a run-scoring single by Joey Appino to extend the game.

Edgewood pushed across the deciding run in the top of the 10th, and Carroll was unable to mount a final comeback in its last at-bat.

Offensively, Carroll finished with 10 runs on 10 hits, drawing 11 walks and applying constant pressure on the basepaths. Lamberson led the Pioneers with three RBI, while Synek collected two hits and an RBI. Appino, Evan Becker, and Nathan Crick each reached base multiple times as Carroll continued to show depth throughout the lineup.

Carroll will look to regroup as the Pioneers continue their spring schedule in Florida, with a game against Nebraska Wesleyan on Thursday.
