PENSACOLA, Fla. — The Carroll baseball team mounted a late comeback effort but ultimately fell 9–7 to Wisconsin-Whitewater on Sunday morning at Blue Wahoos Stadium.

Wisconsin-Whitewater built an early advantage with runs in the first three innings, highlighted by a two-run second and a run in the third to take a 4–2 lead. Carroll responded in the third inning, as Joey Appino drove in a run with a single and Brody Ferko followed with an RBI base hit to pull the Pioneers within one.

After the Warhawks added insurance runs in the sixth and seventh innings to extend the margin, Carroll put together a dramatic five-run rally in the eighth. The Pioneers took advantage of defensive miscues and disciplined at-bats, with Jimmy Williams and Joshua Bell each driving in runs, while Leo Matuga and Ross Olsen added RBIs during the rally to close the gap to a single run.

Despite bringing the tying run to the plate late, Carroll was unable to complete the comeback in the ninth inning.

Carroll finished the game with nine hits, receiving multi-hit performances from Appino and Evan Becker, while Williams, Ferko, Matuga, and Olsen all drove in runs.

On the mound, Braden Lewis started for Carroll and worked five innings, while the bullpen combined to keep the Pioneers within striking distance late.

Carroll concludes its spring trip in Florida as the Pioneers will look to build on their offensive surge heading into their next contest against Wisconsin Lutheran on Thursday at home..
