WINTER HAVEN, Fla. – Carroll softball continued its strong play in Florida with a pair of convincing victories Saturday, defeating Kean 10–0 before topping Gordon 12–4 to complete a sweep at the Diamondplex.
Game 1: Carroll 10, Kean 0
Carroll opened the day with a dominant performance against Kean, breaking the game open with a seven-run third inning to secure the five-inning shutout.
The Pioneers struck first in the opening frame, scoring three runs with the help of aggressive baserunning and a two-run single from Valerie Osthoff. Carroll then erupted in the third, sending 11 batters to the plate and capitalizing on timely hitting and Kean miscues. Osthoff drove in another run during the inning, while Madison Hoagland, Kaylee Baker, Gianna Buske, and Grace O'Connor all contributed run-scoring plays to push the lead to 10–0.
Mya Schneider earned the win in the circle, tossing four scoreless innings while allowing just two hits and striking out three. Claire Baker closed the game with a clean fifth inning to preserve the shutout.
Game 2: Carroll 12, Gordon 4
Carroll carried its offensive momentum into the afternoon matchup with Gordon, erupting for nine runs in the second inning to take control early.
After Gordon scored in the top of the first, Carroll answered emphatically in the second. Kayla Holmes delivered a two-run double to start the scoring, followed by RBIs from Kali Stanchina, Grace O'Connor, Jennavieve Andler, Madison Hoagland, and Buske as the Pioneers sent 14 batters to the plate and built a 9–1 lead.
Gordon cut into the margin with three runs in the third, but Carroll responded with two runs in the fourth and one more in the fifth to put the game away. Buske finished with multiple RBIs, while O'Connor, Hoagland, Holmes, and Andler each drove in runs.
Makayla Wall earned the win in relief, throwing 2.2 scoreless innings and striking out three to shut down the Gordon offense down the stretch.
With the sweep, Carroll improved its record and continued a productive stretch of play in Florida, combining balanced offense, strong pitching, and opportunistic execution. The Pioneers next games come tomorrow, when they have another doubleheader with Penn State Behrend and Washington College (MD).
