WAUKESHA, Wis. — The Carroll University softball team battled through a pair of conference games on Monday afternoon but came up short in both contests against North Central at Kilgour Field, falling 5–1 in the opener and 8–0 in the nightcap.
Game 1 – North Central 5, Carroll 1
North Central jumped out to an early lead, capitalizing on multiple unearned runs in the first two innings. Carroll worked to settle in defensively and kept the score within reach through the middle innings.
Carroll's lone run came in the fourth inning, when Madison Hoagland doubled to left field to drive in Adeline Bretz, cutting the deficit to 5–1. The Pioneers finished the game with seven hits, led by Hoagland and Grace O'Connor, who each collected two hits.
In the circle, Mya Schneider went the distance, allowing five runs (one earned) while holding North Central to eight hits.
Game 2 – North Central 8, Carroll 0
The nightcap saw North Central pull away with a five-run fourth inning to take control of the game.
Carroll recorded seven hits in the contest, with Valerie Osthoff posting a pair of hits and Gianna Buske adding a single. Despite several scoring opportunities, the Pioneers were unable to push a run across.
Carroll used multiple pitchers in the second game as North Central built its lead, with Makayla Wall getting the start and Madelyn Eckl and Makayla Grantz appearing in relief.
Following the doubleheader, Carroll moved to 16–17 overall and 3–7 in CCIW play as conference action continued.
