BLOOMINGTON, Ill. — The Carroll University softball team faced a tough test on Friday afternoon, dropping both games of a CCIW doubleheader against Illinois Wesleyan at Inspiration Field.
Game 1 – Illinois Wesleyan 8, Carroll 0 (5 Innings)
Illinois Wesleyan struck early in the opener, scoring five runs in the first inning and building an advantage that carried through the shortened contest. The Titans added two more runs in the second and another in the third to secure the 8–0 victory in five innings.
Carroll was limited offensively in game one, managing two walks but no hits against Illinois Wesleyan pitching. In the circle, Mya Schneider worked the first three innings before Madelyn Eckl provided relief to close the game.
Game 2 – Illinois Wesleyan 8, Carroll 0 (6 Innings)
The second game followed a similar script, with Illinois Wesleyan scoring in each of the first four innings to take control. Carroll generated a pair of hits in the game, with Grace O'Connor and Madison Hoagland each collecting a hit to lead the offense.
Makayla Wall started game two in the circle, with Makayla Grantz appearing in relief. Despite continued effort defensively, Carroll was unable to break through offensively as Illinois Wesleyan completed the doubleheader sweep.
Following the doubleheader, Carroll moved to 16–19 overall and 3–9 in CCIW play. The Pioneers are back on the field tomorrow as they travel to Decatur to take on Millikin in a doubleheader starting at noon.
