MOLINE, Ill. — The Carroll University baseball team jumped out to an early lead on Monday night but was unable to keep pace as Augustana used a big middle innings surge to pull away for a 12–2 victory in CCIW action.
Carroll struck first in the fourth inning, capitalizing on an error to take a 2–0 lead. Jimmy Williams opened the scoring with an RBI double to right-center field, and Dalen Lamberson followed with a sacrifice fly to plate the second run.
Augustana answered in the bottom half of the inning, tying the game before breaking it open in the fifth with a three-run home run. The Vikings continued to add on, scoring in each of the final three innings to build separation.
Carroll finished with three hits in the contest, including a pinch-hit double from Nathan Crick. Evan Becker reached base twice via walks, while Ryan Kopecky also drew a free pass.
On the mound, Braden Lewis worked 4.1 innings in his start, allowing four runs, before Carroll went to the bullpen. The Pioneers used multiple relievers as Augustana extended its lead late.
Following the game, Carroll moved to 19–16 overall and 7–9 in CCIW play. Conference action continues this weekend as Carroll squares off with Wheaton in a 3-game series, with the opener coming at Wheaton this Friday on the road with a 6pm start.
