CAROL STREAM, Ill. — The Carroll University baseball team put together a complete performance on Thursday night, using a decisive middle-to-late innings surge to earn a 9–2 road victory over Wheaton at Lee Pfund Stadium.
After falling behind 2–0 through the first three innings, Carroll broke through in the fourth, taking the lead on a three-run home run by Brody Ferko. Ferko's blast flipped the momentum and gave the Pioneers their first lead of the night.
Carroll continued to add on throughout the game. Dalen Lamberson drove in a run with a ground-rule double in the fifth, and the Pioneers plated three more runs in the seventh inning, highlighted by a sacrifice fly from Jimmy Williams and a two-run home run by Evan Becker.
The offense capped the night with two runs in the ninth, as Joey Appino launched a solo home run before Leo Matuga added an RBI single to push the margin to seven.
Carroll finished with 11 hits, led by Ferko, who went 3-for-5 with three RBIs, and Becker, who drove in two runs. Appino scored three times, while Matuga collected two hits and an RBI.
On the mound, Tyler Fredrick delivered a strong complete-game effort, working all nine innings while allowing two runs on seven hits. Fredrick struck out four and earned the win as Carroll held Wheaton scoreless over the final six innings.
With the win, Carroll improved to 20–16 overall and 8–9 in CCIW play as conference action continued.
