BLOOMINGTON, Ill. — The Carroll University women's tennis team faced a strong Augustana squad in the quarterfinal round of the CCIW Tournament on Wednesday, with the Vikings earning a 4–0 victory to advance. Per tournament rules, remaining matches were abandoned once Augustana secured four points.
Augustana opened the match by taking the doubles point, winning at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles. At the top spot, Carroll's Nawal Souki and Aalaiya Jacklin battled through a tight tiebreak but fell 7–6 (7–1). At No. 2 doubles, Mia Franke and Natasa Pupovac were defeated 6–3. Carroll earned a win at No. 3 doubles, where Gracie Niebler and Katherine Trifilio posted a 6–1 victory, though the point did not factor into the team score.
In singles play, Augustana clinched the match with wins at No. 4 and No. 5 singles. At No. 4, Nawal Souki fell 6–2, 6–3, and at No. 5, Makayla Counsell was defeated 6–3, 6–1, securing the fourth point for the Vikings.
The remaining singles matches were abandoned once the match was decided, though several were competitive prior to stoppage. At No. 1 singles, Natasa Pupovac split sets before play was halted. Katherine Trifilio also earned a first-set win at No. 2 singles before her match was abandoned, while Mia Franke and Gracie Niebler were each locked in three-set battles at No. 3 and No. 6 singles, respectively, when play concluded.
Carroll will now shift its focus to closing out the regular season at home, hosting Illinois Tech on Sunday for Senior Day. The match is scheduled for a 2 p.m. start and will serve as the Pioneers' final home competition of the spring.
