NAPERVILLE, Ill. – The Carroll University men's tennis team faced a stiff road challenge on Friday morning, falling 7–0 to No. 34 North Central at the Naperville Tennis Club.
The Cardinals claimed the doubles point by sweeping all three matches. At No. 1 doubles, David Eman and Ultrik Gellein battled but fell 6–1, while Andrew LaBelle and Ryan LaBelle dropped a 6–1 decision at No. 2. The duo of Nate Christensen and Felix Persson also competed closely before falling at No. 3 doubles.
North Central carried that momentum into singles play, where the Cardinals secured all six points to complete the sweep. Despite the final score, Carroll produced several competitive individual matches throughout the lineup.
At No. 1 singles, Andrew LaBelle pushed his nationally regarded opponent before falling in straight sets, while Felix Persson delivered one of the tightest contests of the day at No. 4 singles. Persson earned a first-set tiebreak win before North Central responded to take the final two sets in a closely fought match.
Carroll continued to battle across the singles courts, with Ultrik Gellein, Ryan LaBelle, Nate Christensen, and David Eman all competing against a deep and experienced North Central lineup.
The Pioneers will look to build on the competitive moments from Friday's match as they continue their spring schedule.
