WAUKESHA, Wis. — The Carroll University men's tennis team turned in a strong all-around performance Friday afternoon, earning a 6–1 victory over Illinois Wesleyan in conference action.
Carroll grabbed the early advantage by securing the doubles point, winning two of the three matches. The No. 2 doubles team of David Eman and Ulrik Gellein earned a 6–4 win, while Nate Christensen and Ryan LaBelle cruised to a 6–0 victory at No. 3 to clinch the point and give the Pioneers a 1–0 lead heading into singles play.
From there, Carroll took control across the singles courts, winning five of six matches. At No. 1 singles, Andrew LaBelle earned a straight-set win, 6–1, 6–4, to extend the Pioneer lead. Felix Persson followed with a 6–2, 6–3 victory at No. 4, while Nate Christensen dominated at No. 5 with a 6–0, 6–1 result. Carroll also picked up a convincing win at No. 6 singles, where Layton Carls closed out a 6–0, 6–3 victory to help seal the match. Ryan Labelle rounded out the singles wins with a third set tiebreak win in a tightly contested match after going down in the first set.
Illinois Wesleyan's lone point came in a tightly contested match at No. 3 singles, where the Titans edged out a third-set super tiebreak.
Overall, the Pioneers showcased depth throughout the lineup, winning multiple matches in straight sets and maintaining steady momentum from start to finish.
The victory marks another solid performance for Carroll as it continues through the spring portion of its schedule, with a quick turnaround for another home match with Millikin at 10am on Saturday.
