ELMHURST, Ill. – The Carroll University men's lacrosse team faced a challenging afternoon on the road Friday, falling 25–2 to Elmhurst at Langhorst Field in their CCIW opener.
Elmhurst set the tone early, scoring 10 goals in the opening quarter and controlling possession throughout the contest. Carroll battled defensively but was limited offensively as the Bluejays built a 19–1 lead by halftime.
Carroll got on the scoreboard late in the first quarter when Ethan Phillips scored an unassisted goal to make it 6–1. The Pioneers continued to compete throughout the second and third quarters but were unable to slow Elmhurst's transition attack.
The Pioneers added their second goal of the afternoon in the fourth quarter on a man-up opportunity, as Brady Conwell finished a feed from Luke Bridges.
In goal, Jake Gehl made 14 saves while facing a high volume of shots. Carroll recorded 18 ground balls and worked to limit extra-man opportunities, holding Elmhurst to 0-for-1 on man-up chances.
The Pioneers will look to regroup as they continue conference play next Saturday when they host Illinois Wesleyan at Schneider Stadium at 3pm.
