WAUKESHA, Wis. – The Carroll University women's soccer team earned a hard-fought 0-0 draw against UW-Stevens Point on Wednesday evening at Schneider Stadium. The Pioneers moved to 0-1-3 on the season after controlling much of the play against the Pointers, holding advantages in shots, corner kicks, and possession.
Carroll finished with a 9-6 edge in shots and a 5-3 advantage in corner kicks while controlling 55 percent of the match possession. The Pioneers also placed three shots on goal and limited UW-Stevens Point to just two shots on target over the 90-minute contest.
The Pioneers created several promising opportunities in the opening half. Ellie Pierson saw an early attempt blocked less than a minute into the match, while Michaela Williamson forced a save in the 17th minute. Carroll continued to pressure throughout the period, but the two sides entered halftime deadlocked at 0-0.
Carroll turned up the pressure after the break, recording six second-half shots. Pierson tested the goalkeeper early in the half, while Carmella Nowak, Victoria Crivello, and Ellie Patrickus each generated opportunities. Patrickus nearly broke the stalemate in the 79th minute, but UW-Stevens Point goalkeeper Jocelyn Blahnik came up with the save to preserve the tie.
On the defensive end, sophomore goalkeeper Ava Lewandowski once again anchored the Pioneer back line. Lewandowski finished with two saves and recorded her third shutout of the season, helping Carroll hold the Pointers scoreless for the full 90 minutes.
Patrickus and Pierson led the Pioneers with two shots apiece, while Nowak, Williamson, Crivello, and Harlie Seuser each contributed chances in the scoreless draw.
Carroll returns to action Friday as they travel to Edgewood to take on the Eagles in another nonconference matchup at 1pm in Madison.
