LA CROSSE, Wis. – The Carroll University women's tennis team dropped a 7-0 nonconference decision to the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse on Sunday afternoon. The Pioneers faced a strong Eagles squad in one of their final tune-ups before returning to tournament competition later this week.

UW-La Crosse gained the early advantage by sweeping all three doubles matches. The No. 1 pairing of Natasa Pupovac and Katherine Trifilio battled before falling 6-2, while the teams of Mia Franke and Gracie Niebler at No. 2 doubles and Madison Siminski and Nawal Souki at No. 3 doubles also came up short by identical 6-2 scores. 

In singles play, the Pioneers continued to compete against a talented UW-La Crosse lineup. Katherine Trifilio turned in Carroll's closest singles effort at the No. 2 position, claiming four games in the opening set before ultimately falling 6-4, 6-1. Natasa Pupovac competed at No. 1 singles, while Mia Franke, Gracie Niebler, Nawal Souki, and Madison Siminski rounded out the lineup for the Pioneers.

Despite the final score, the match provided valuable competition against a quality regional opponent as Carroll continues its fall season. The Pioneers will look to build on the experience gained Sunday when they return to tournament action later this month. 

Carroll's next competition will be the ITA Midwest Regional, scheduled for Sept. 25-27 in St. Peter, Minnesota. The event will feature many of the top players and programs from across the region and provide another opportunity for the Pioneers to continue their development during the fall campaign.
