Box Score (Appleton, Wis.) – Amassing a season-high 246 rushing yards, Carroll University’s football team is back in business with a 55-6 win against Lawrence University.
Saturday’s win came after two consecutive devastating Pioneer losses - one to St. Norbert College and the other to Lake Forest College.
The Pioneers’ comeback improves them to a record of 4-2 overall, 3-2 in the Midwest Conference. The game left Lawrence at 1-4 overall, 1-4 in the MWC.
Gaining the most rushes and rushing yards by an individual Pioneer this season, Carroll’s Lamont Williams rushed 26 times for 153 yards and three touchdowns.
Justin Butterfield completed 12/20 passes and had six rushes for a total of three touchdowns. Matt Sklander added two more touchdowns for Carroll.
Tyler Raymaker made two field goals; one was the Pioneer season’s longest at 26 yards.
Daniel Arden helped torch the Vikings’ defense with an 84-yard run, the longest in Carroll’s 2012 season.
And that was just Carroll’s offense.
Leading the Pioneer defense was Eliot Fields with nine tackles. Josh Zank helped stun the Vikings’ offense with four tackles, plus 2.5 sacks.
Carroll stunned Lawrence with a touchdown early in the first quarter, the beginning of a Pioneer scoring-rampage.
In the third quarter, Carroll’s defense only allowed one Lawrence touchdown while Carroll went scoreless.
In the fourth, the Pioneer defense shut down Lawrence with four interceptions and a sack.
Next, the Pioneers will face Grinnell College at home on Saturday, Oct. 20. Grinnell will kick off at a record of 2-3, 2-2 in the MWC.
