Box Score 2 TUCSON, Arizona - Carroll University (1-2) split a twinbill on Monday afternoon., The Pioneers dropped Presentation College by the final score of 11-7 before falling to #20 Wesleyan University 5-0 in the second game.
In game one, Carroll tallied single runs in the second and fourth inning to build a 2-0 lead and pushed the lead to 5-1 on a two-run single by Ethan Urban in the top of the sixth., Presentation would answer and tie the game 5-5 on a three run homerun in the bottom half of the sixth inning., The Pios would immediately answer with three more in the top of the seventh, the big blow a two-run single by Clayton Schmitt., Carroll wouldn't relinquish the lead from there and thanks to some stellar defensive plays would seal the 11-7 victory.
Carl Formento (1-0) would record the win on the mound., Formento threw six innings, striking out 8 and walking just one batter., Dan Arden and Zach Wiseman would close out the victory combining for two and two-thirds scoreless innings.
Freshman Brady Durni and Hunter Frey, both making their collegiate debuts, would each record a pair of hits while playing stellar defense on the left side of the infield., Alex Olson would lead the offensive attach finishing 3x5 with a double.
Game two was a rematch of the season opener the night before., Twentieth ranked Wesleyan University wasted no time getting on the board with a pair of runs in the first and three more in the fourth inning., From that point the Pioneers played even with Wesleyan but couldn't put anything together offensively.,
Kevin Dineen (0-1) started on the mound and was hung with the tough luck loss., Dineen surrendered just three earned runs in six innings of work., Alex Pronschinske worked two clean innings and freshman Mark Carew worked a scoreless ninth in his collegiate debut.
Coach Rear was pleased overall with his team's performance on the day, "We took a step forward today., We got some timely hitting in game one and played much better defensively today., Our pitchers threw well today and we got some important innings and at bats from a few of our freshman today"
Carroll University returns to action tomorrow at 9am against another ranked opponent as the face #18 Buena Vista.
