Strong first quarter powers Pios in nonconference road victory

Grubor scores season-high 23 points; Carroll generates season-best point total

Box Score MANITOWOC, Wis. - Freshman guard/forward Sierra Grubor (Milwaukee, Wis.) scored a season-high 23 points to lead the Carroll University women's basketball team to a 79-65 victory over Silver Lake College in a nonconference game at the University of Wisconsin-Manitowoc on Wednesday night.
It was the third nonconference road victory of the season for Carroll, which generated a season-high point total as it won its second straight and improved to 5-5 overall.
The Pioneers outscored Silver Lake 39-26 in the first half, including a 21-13 margin during the opening quarter - featuring a 9-2 run over the course of the final four minutes.
Freshman guard Alyssa Cruz (West Allis, Wis.) followed with 11 points and freshman center Celina Schwantes (Pewaukee, Wis.) had 10 points for Carroll, which shot 45 percent from field-goal range.
Senior forward Hailee Kotche had 17 points, nine rebounds and five assists for Silver Lake, which dropped to 3-7 overall.
