Pioneers take 4th and 5th at CCIW Championships

KENOSHA, Wis.-

The Pioneers competed in the 2018 swimming and diving CCIW Championships hosted by Carthage College. The event ran from February 15-17, with the women taking fourth (422 points) and the men taking fifth (205).

The women were led by Kaitlin Squier and Ally Osell. Squier took second in the 100 yard and the 200 yard breaststroke events, breaking the school record for both events. In the 100 yard event, Squier finished with a time of 1:06.64, while finishing in the 200 yard event with a time of 2:23.69. Squier also took fourth in the 200 yard IM with a time of 2:12.59, while also being apart of three different relay teams that finished in the top five. Osell took first in the one meter (443.65) and the three meter (467.35) dives, qualifying for regionals in both events.

The 4x100 yard medley relay took fourth with a time of 4:01.28. The relay consisted of Squier, Lindsey Coons, Marissa Stacy and Rowan Liederbach. These Pioneers also made up the 4x50 yard medley relay that finished in third place with a time of 1:49.42.

Jordan Andrews joined forces with Squier, Coons and Liederbach to compose the 4x100 yard freestyle relay. They took fourth place with a time of 3:38.30.

Coons also had a solid individual performance in the 100 yard backstroke, taking third with a time of 58.55, breaking a Pioneer record for the event.

The women also had a qualitry performance in the 4x200 yard freestyle relay, finishing in fourth with a time of 8:14.02. the relay was composed of Amanda Klaeser, Sara Janz, Maggie Fiekes and Sarah Schulz.

The men were led by James Kelly, who was competing in the final swim meet of his collegiate career. He finished the 50 ard freestyle with a time of 21.13, a new Carroll University record for the event. He also swam well in the 100 yard freestyle, finishing with a time of 47.39.
