Pioneers escape the cold, compete in the Bellarmine Classic

LOUISVILLE, Ky.-

The Pioneers needed to get out of the region, with two of their three outdoor meets getting canceled due to inclement weather. The team boarded buses and took off for the Bellarmine Classic in Kentucky. The event took place on April 21 and did not record overall team scores.

Emily Uitenbroek and Grant Marton led the Pioneers with outstanding performances in their respective events. Uitenbroek recorded two second place finishes, taking second in the hammer throw with a distance of 45.40m and second in the javelin throw with a distance of 33.88 m. Marton took first in the men's 800m run with a time of 1:54.46.

Marissa Wendtland and Raissa Spencer also had top three finishes for Carroll. Wendtland took second in the women's 400m hurdles with a time of 1:04.25 while Spencer took third in the 400m dash with a time of 58.27.

Two women had record setting performances, as they set new personal records in their respective events. Karlee Larson finished in fourth place in the 1500m run, with a new PR time of 4:49.75. Megan Reese finished in fifth place in the 3000m steeplechase with a new PR time of 12:12.66.

Tyler Madoche also ran well for the men, finishing in fourth in the 3000m steeplechase with a time of 10:17.04.

The men also had a couple solid performances in the field events. David Lembke took fourth in the high jump with a height of 1.98m, while Andrew Manikham took fifth in the hammer throw with a distance of 38.58m.

The Pioneers will be back in action on May 5, as they compete in the CCIW Outdoor Championships hosted by North Central College.
